25 Lessons for 25 Years

Another summer is officially over and with it comes a feeling of closure and reflection. I'm ready to put it behind me and move on to the next one.

For your reading pleasure {and for selfish therapeutic reasons} here are 25 lessons I've learned in my 25 years on Earth.

1) You are you. You are not your best friend. You are not your enemy. You are not the girl you work with. Stop trying to be someone else and embrace what God has blessed you with.

2) Don't stop looking for things you are passionate about. And when you do find them, go balls to the wall!

3) Quality over quantity. Always. This rings true when it comes to men, jewelry, mixed drinks, sets of sheets, friends, clothes, and calories.

4) Mom is right more often than you want to admit. Just go ahead and give in. You'll be the right mom 30 years down the road.

5) Think about just how HUGE this world is. Think of all the people, all of the animals, all of the plants, all of the hurt, all of the suffering, and all of the joy. Rather than feel insignificant, just know that you are meant to be where you are and you're doing just fine.

6) Everything happens for a reason. Trust in this.

7) Keep moving - you'll have time to be a slug later in life. For now, get off the couch, go for a bike ride, join your man on a motorcycle ride, and stay active! Your body will thank you.

8) Nobody owes you anything. Don't act like you're entitled to anything. If you work hard and be kind, things will play out just fine.

9) Comparison really is the thief of joy. So try not to be too jealous of the girl with always perfect hair or the long legs - you're not doing yourself any favors thinking like that.

10) Finding a pair of jeans that fits perfectly is next to impossible. Don't give up trying but also don't be surprised when this same thing pops up on your "50 Lessons for 50 Years" list...

11) Tell your loved ones that you love them. Spend time with them and cherish those moments. Who knows, they may be around for years upon years but in the tragic situation that they aren't you don't want to have any regrets.

12) And on the same token, soak up as much knowledge from your mom as you can. One day in the {hopefully} distant future, she'll be gone and you won't be able to ask her the name of your first pet, why home improvements take sixteen times longer than anticipated, or what to do with all the zucchini in your garden. Gather as much parenting advice as you can because - let's face it - you're going to need it when that time rolls around and she has 25 years on you. Heck, she kept you alive for the first 18 years of your life so she's got to know something about parenting...

13) Continue your adventure. Don't forget to include your husband -he'd be pretty ticked if you took off to Jamaica without him.

14) Drink more water. Eat more vegetables. Get more sleep. Basically, just take care of your body. After all, it's the only one you've got!

15) Be real. You don't need fake eyelashes. Or a chevron pillow. Or that weird fuzzy nail polish. That stuff isn't you. Screw the fads!

16) You are beautiful. Yes, even when you look in the mirror and only see your chubby cheeks, your flat hair, and your bigger-than-average thighs. You can thank your Oma for that - she is in you and her legacy will live on for generations to come.

17) Your kind heart will move mountains. Think of the lives you've touched, the patients you've cared for, and the families you've helped. You've improved their quality of life, you've answered hard questions, and you've been empathetic to their situations. They thank you.

18) Sitting with a patient or their family and crying along side them is never wrong. The lady in 204 may not understand why her 9:00 am pill doesn't come until 9:15 am and the surgical nurses may be waiting for you with the gentleman in 216... but the time you spend opening your heart to those who need it is well spent. And sometimes, you'll find your heart heals a little bit when you do this, so make time for it.

19) Never stop looking for things to learn.

20) The little things in life really are the most important.

21) Save money and make smart financial choices. But every now and then you have my permission to buy that skirt/nail polish/purse that you don't actually need, no matter how hard you try to convince yourself.

22) Limit the amount of time you spend online. Facebook is great and all, but that evening stroll with your husband is even sweeter.

23) Learn to take responsibility for everything you do. Didn't take out the garbage this week? You're gonna have to haul it all out next week and deal with a stinky garage until then. Want to go back to school? You're gonna have to find the money to make that happen.

24) Learn to receive grace and learn to be graceful.

25) You are never too old to have fun. Don't take yourself too seriously. Make time to be silly and laugh until your belly hurts.

Project: Do You #17

Today's Project: Do You post is going to be the last one. I don't know if I should be sad it's over or if I should be excited that everything's checked off!

Let's do a quick run down on how things went:

#1 - Read one book per month. Pretty darn self explanatory, right?

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. I was doing much better at this before my wisdom teeth surgery at the end of June, but since then I've stayed active at home rather than going to the YMCA 3-4 days a week.

#3 - Run a 5K. I ran/walked The Color Run on Sunday with 5 other teammates. We did incredibly well - seriously, I'm so impressed! - and I'm ready to sign up for another one already! It was so.much.fun!!

#4 - Add another 2K to the vacation fund. This one went out the window when a house came into the picture. It would be silly to put money in a fund that we won't use until late 2014 at the earliest, especially because more money that we can put towards a house, the less money we'll be in debt to our mortgage lender!

#5 - Plan a date night ahead of time for each month. This doesn't take a lot of explanation.

#6 - Enjoy a weekend away with Trevor. And it was a relaxing one at that!

#7 - Shape eyebrows. I finally was happy with the shape a few months back... and I've been pretty happy since then, too!

#8 - Finish our wedding scrapbook. I know it didn't say this on the list, but this was a summer goal. Now that summer's over for me, this is done and over with as well. It's not close to being done, but there's just simply much bigger and better fish to fry. I still have everything I need and I may have a scrapbooking weekend with my mom sometime in the future, but it's just not high priority right now.

#9 - Travel more. I had checked this off a while ago and I've since planned another trip to Chicago with Whitney in a couple weeks. I'm excited!

#10 - Learn to say no more often. I put this on the list because I felt that I was kind of getting walked all over at work. I'm still sticking to my guns and saying no when I don't want to pick up extra shifts at the drop of a hat.

#11 - Make more time for crafting. I finished a table, a bookcase, and a dresser within the past week and they look fantastic. I'm also in the middle of finding stuff for a gallery wall {leave links to your favorite free printables in the comments below!!} Crafting is a nice relaxer for me and I'm loving it in my life right now!

#12 - Get out of my comfort zone more often. Rule number one: Nothing about starting an accelerated nursing program with 29 strangers or buying a house is within your comfort zone.

#13 - Share our wedding on the blog. So glad I did this!!

#14 - Attend a concert. Checkity, check. And, Trevor and I are thinking about going to Chicago for another concert the first weekend of October!

#15 - See a Broadway show. BOM was amazing!

#16 - Get hearing tested again/look into surgery. It's good to know where my hearing stands and what my surgical options are. I'm not planning on going under the knife quite yet, but I'm glad I had the appointment.

#17 - Bake someone a birthday cake. I totally didn't skimp on this one! The chocolate cake I baked for Trevor was pretty yummy!

#18 - Go to the beach. What's summer without a little time with your toes in the sand?!

#19 - Forgive. I honestly feel like I've become a better person and that this comes a lot more naturally to me now.

So that's that! The list is done! Are you sad to see it go?

How are your goals coming along?

You can recap my journey by reading all of my Project: Do You posts here.

Project: Do You #16

#1 - Read one book per month. The Fault in our Stars (by John Green) was a FANTASTIC book! I highly recommend it as an easy summer read - one that will make you cry and laugh all on the same page. It also counted as my "October" book, so this goal will be crossed off as soon as I finish another two!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. I've been active, though not as much as I should be. Not that it's an excuse, but our house hunt has been taking every extra ounce of energy I have. This week will be better - I hope. The Color Run is in less than two weeks and I need to spend more time running outside!

#11 - Make more time for crafting. You may have seen a few pictures if you follow me on Instagram (@YouAndMeAreWe), but there will be more pictures to come here as soon as the paint's dry! A $30 table from Craigslist has never looked better, let me tell you. There will be a few more crafts coming, along with a dresser and bookcase makeover. I've been enjoying my time getting crafty so I'm guessing this will be checked off the list pretty darn soon, as well.

I'm now officially halfway done with my Project: Do You list! A few goals that are left will be crossed off in the near future, and I have some ideas on how to complete a couple more. It feels so good to know I'm accomplishing things!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. I've been cleared for regular activity for about a week now and I still haven't made it to the YMCA again. It's hard getting back in a workout groove! I haven't been completely lazy, though, because I've been riding my bike around as much as I can as a car replacement just because it's been nice out. The Color Run is coming up in 4 weeks so I NEED to get my butt in gear and start running more outside!

#5 - Plan a date night ahead of time for each month. I originally created this goal because I figured we'd need motivation to put our marriage first and to spend quality time together at least once a month. Turns out that we're really good about taking time for each other and we don't need to plan things ahead - they just happen! The other night, we went for an impromptu walk around the neighborhood just because. Then, we came home and shared an ice cream cone. A perfect ending to a day that would not have been as romantic had we planned it ahead of time. This goal is officially checked off!

#10 - Learn to say no more often. Nursing school has really helped me with this one! I'm finding myself saying 'no' to picking up shifts at work that won't benefit me {unless the person asking has done me a favor, in which case I'm all about paying them back!} and I'm learning how not to feel guilty about it. I need to do what's right for me and with so little time left at work, I really have no choice but to say no sometimes!

#18 - Go to the beach. We hung out at The Dunes when we were in Indiana and had a great time! It always amazes me how much Lake Michigan seems like the ocean at The Dunes... but it's no where near as nice on the Western shore here in Wisconsin!

#1 - Read one book per month. I finished another book last week, which was my September book. Only three books left to cross this off my Project list!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. I haven't been able to workout in a week because of my oral surgery. I have been staying as active as I can manage, but it's no substitute for the YMCA! I've had some complications from the surgery so who knows how long it will be before I'm cleared for strenuous activity again.

#6 - Enjoy a weekend away with Trevor. We spent last weekend on the Mississippi River at my dad's house and next weekend we'll be visiting friends. I can definitely say we've spend weekends away, though none just the two of us.

#12 - Get out of my comfort zone more often. My wisdom teeth experience falls under this if nothing else! Sparing the details, it's been pretty weird for me to be the patient and not the nurse.

#13 - Share our wedding on the blog. Except for the last post hiccup, this is done and checked off. And I'm so glad about it, too! Our wedding day was special and beautiful and amazing and we'll never forget it. To share it with you was fun, and I'm glad so many of you also had dress dilemmas )

I am so happy to be seeing things getting crossed off my list! How are your goals coming along?

#1 - Read one book per month. I read another book in the past couple of weeks: Rose in a Storm by Jon Katz. It was decent, but not realistic which bothered me the whole book, but I powered through! Two more books read in June? I'll take it!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. Not much to say except this is still happening, so that's good!

#13 - Share our wedding on the blog. We're in the middle of our anniversary month and you've read two posts about our wedding. Tomorrow {our actual anniversary} is another one about our attire, Wednesday's another post, and next Wednesday is the final recap. I'm enjoying sharing photos with you and I hope you're liking them as well!

This week's P:DY recap is pretty short and sweet, but that's fine with me. I'm staying on the straight and narrow with my eyes on the prize, as they say, so I can't ask for more in terms of goal accomplishment. Hopefully there will be more checked off the list in the coming weeks!

#1 - Read one book per month. I finished Looking for Alaska by John Green and haven't started another book yet. I really want to (and I really should if I'm going to meet my yearly goal before school starts this fall!) so hopefully I have more down time in the next few weeks to do so.

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. Our YMCA membership is still keeping us at the gym at least 3-4 times a week. I'm loving it!

#5 - Plan a date night ahead of time for each month. Saturday night Trevor and I took one of his motorcycles to an old fashioned ice cream place about 40 minutes away. It was a nice ride and not too cold!

#7 - Shape eyebrows. I'm finally happy with both eyebrows so I'm crossing this off the list! They're even and match pretty darn well. It's amazing the difference nicely shaped eyebrows make, that's for sure. And now I just have to maintain them...

#9 - Travel more. I'm crossing this off the list, too, because I just returned from my mother-daughter trip to Chicago (trip recap to come soon!). Seeing as how school will be starting in a few months and I can't stray too far during my year of studying, we don't have any new vacations planned. We are still visiting friends in Indiana next month, but other than that there won't be trips happening until after graduation next October.

#15 - See a Broadway show. While in Chicago, my mom and I saw Book of Mormon. Hilarious and so good! I'm sure I'll have 'Baptize Me' and 'Hello!' stuck in my head for days, but that's alright with me because they keep me laughing to myself. And now I'm curious to see how Mormons feel about the show...

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. The YMCA membership has been great but so far we've only used it for cardio. I'd love to start using some of their weight machines and getting back into swimming. I mentioned two weeks ago that I had signed up for classes but life hasn't allowed me to get to any of the classes I signed up for yet! This Wednesday it will happen, I swear.

#3 - Run a 5K. My mom and I walked a 5K about a week ago. It was cold and wet and cold. Did I mention it was cold? Even though the weather sucked, we had a great time and finished strong. I walked in honor of my Oma who was still fighting leukemia at that point. It was my first organized race/walk and I had a great time. I can't wait for The Color Run coming up in August!

#9 - Travel more. My mom and I are getting geared up for our trip to Chicago! Thanks to my good blog friend, Steph, we have lists of places to eat, drink, and shop while we're there. It's going to be a quick 3-day, 2-night trip but I am so looking forward to it! Pictures and stories to come, I promise.

#15 - See a Broadway show. This is happening while we're in Chicago. Book of Mormon, here we come! I've heard great things - plus, we have phenomenal seats, so I can't wait!

And that's all - it's been a low key couple of weeks. Last week was spent studying for finals {Turns out I got an A in biochemistry, so take note, College of Nursing!} and mourning the death of my Oma. It was more about time spent with family than working on my goals list. I hope to have more crossed off next time I update in two weeks!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. I mentioned last time that I was waiting to go to the doctor before running outside again. Well, turns out that I have exercise-induced asthma... but only outdoors and we're not sure why because most of my allergies are topical and indoors. I've used my inhaler {man, those puppies are expensive!} before running and it did seem to help. Win! Also, Trevor and I now have a Y membership and have gone once together so far. I think it's going to be difficult to align our schedules so we can do cardio next to each other, but we will make it work. Six months are already paid for so we have no reason not to go! I am taking a SimplyFit class for the next month or so and then starting a Zumba class in June. I have to look at my schedule a little closer but I'm also planning on signing up for a spin class somewhere in there, too.

#3 - Run a 5K. Next Saturday is my first 5K of the year, though this one I'll be walking in with a very large group of my mom's coworkers. I'm walking in honor of my Oma who is currently in the last stage of life due to her leukemia.

#4 Add another 2K to the vacation fund. Now that Trevor has a job, we'll be able to start saving again soon!

#13 Share our wedding on the blog. I've been thinking of ways to share pictures, ideas, and details from our wedding in this space lately. Next month is our two year anniversary so expect to see posts in about six weeks. I want to highlight our ceremony, our reception, attire, decor {maybe some tutorials?}, and my regrets/dos and don'ts. What else would you like to see? Would you like an entire week devoted to wedding posts or would you rather read them more spaced out?

#17 Bake someone a birthday cake. You may have seen a picture on Friday of the cake I made for Trevor's birthday last weekend but if not, here's a look:
I'm pretty proud that I could cross another goal off my list!

#1 - Read one book per month. Since I last posted, I've read two books - both by John Green. First, I read Paper Towns while I was waiting to borrow The Fault In Our Stars from my brother. Not gonna lie, I read Paper Towns in a couple of hours. It was a quick read and I was totally into it. It's not mind blowing by any means, but it's a good story. When I met up with my brother to borrow TFIOS, he also lent me the rest of John Green's books and I read An Abundance of Katherines in a day. I'm counting those as my May and June books!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. The doctor's appointment I mentioned last time is this afternoon and I'll hopefully have more answers after that. I did work out a couple times since I last posted and didn't have the issue I did that prompted me to call a doctor. I've noticed a few positive changes in my body since last wearing shorts/capris and I'm encouraged to keep going. Plus, I have a 5K in a couple weeks and another in August. I better get better soon!

#7 Shape eyebrows. I'm really trying to perfect my eyebrows because for the longest time I let them get crazy and it makes me cringe when I look back at photos. Plus, I'm trying to find ways to make myself look older {or, at the very least, at least look my age!} because people are constantly mistaking me for a high schooler. Not so awesome when it's been 7-8 years since I last took a high school class. Anyway - back to the eyebrows - I think I'm getting somewhere with them! I like the way one side looks and now I'm trying to get the other side to match without overplucking. It's a slow process but I feel like I'm making progress :)

#9 Travel more. The past couple of weekends, we've been in Madison and Milwaukee which has been a nice change from sitting around and staring out the window at the snow.

#17 Bake someone a birthday cake. Trevor's birthday is almost here and I've narrowed down my cake options to two different chocolate cakes. I can't wait to get creative in the kitchen and I really hope it turns out well!

#1 - Read one book per month. I finished The Girl Who Chased the Moon {my April book} and I'm thinking of starting on my May book already. I have a couple in mind but I can't decide which one to read first... once I figure that out, I'll be good to go!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. It's still cold in Wisconsin - read: we haven't had a day above 50 yet! - but I have ventured outside with my running. Treadmills can get boring, that's for sure. I had a bit of a scare when I ran outside last week and have an appointment made with my doctor to investigate this scare a little more. I'll be holding off with the running until she clears me for more because the last thing I want is to do damage to my body. I see her in a week and a half, so hopefully the next time I post P:DY, I'll have better news.

#9 - Travel more. My mom and I are heading to Chicago next month and I'm starting to get pretty excited! We've been there enough that we've done the tourist thing so this time around we decided to stay in an apartment, and explore different parts of the city we've never been to. We're planning on visiting areas south of The Loop and north of the Gold Coast {where we're staying}. I welcome and and all suggestions on what to see, where to eat, and what to try! Please help make our trip full of adventure and trying new things!

#17 - Bake someone a birthday cake. Trevor's birthday is in a couple weeks so I need to start thinking about what kind of cake to make him. If you have any suggestions, leave a comment below!

Again, no questions this week as not many of them apply.

Project: Do You - Changes

You may have noticed that Meagan hasn't been blogging much these days due to some personal reasons. I'm glad she's taking time to figure a few things out and she's putting her "real" life first. Seeing as how she's the other half to Project: Do Me 2013, but is not able to contribute at this time, I've decided to make a few changes to the way the series is being posted.

Right now, every Sunday's post is a Project: Do Me post. My life is boring and not a lot happens in the span of seven days. So, because of that, I've decided to only post every other week. It'll be better for both you and I because I'll be able to write better content {not the same thing over and over}, and you won't be forced to see your feed clogged up with my mediocre posts every.single.week.

Also, did you know that not many people read blogs on Sunday? They're doing better things like spending time with their families, going to church, relaxing before the work week starts up again, and just generally staying away from blogs. I get that feeling! I do it, too! And so because of that reason, I'm moving the Project: Do Me posts from Sunday to Mondays/Tuesdays.

The effort that I'm putting forth into this project isn't changing - if anything, these changes will allow me to spend more time working on my goals. You will see a few changes on your end, but they're meant to be beneficial.

As always, you're welcome to join me in this project. You can visit this post for more information.

Happy Easter! How are you spending your holiday?

#1 - Read one book per month. I raided my grandma's book collection this past week because she had been asking me to read a book of hers. Borrowing one book turned into borrowing a handful so I'm set on books for the next few months! I started reading my book for April this week: Sarah Addison Allen's book The Girl Who Chased The Moon. I've been meaning to read this book for a long time so I'm happy I finally have the chance to. So far, so good!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. I've been good with this, but I'm starting to get very antsy for the weather to warm up enough so that I can run outside instead of on the treadmill. Once the weather is warmer, I'll be able to increase my workouts because I won't have to get in my car and drive to work out. My neighborhood is incredibly friendly for walkers/runners/bikers/etc, so I'm incredibly lucky for that. However, with that said, I am super sore today from yesterday's workout! My arms, my legs, my abs, my everything hurt. I never feel quite so accomplished unless my body is sore afterwards, so yesterday's workout was a complete success!

#15 - See a Broadway show. This week we officially bought tickets to see Book of Mormon in Chicago at the end of May. My mom and I got some great seats at an even better price, so I'm over the moon about our upcoming trip!

No questions this week - I've been on autopilot and the questions hardly apply to what I've been doing this week {work, sleep, school, study, repeat}.

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. Check. Again. Still.

#16 Get hearing tested again/look into surgery. I had a hearing test and met with my ENT surgeon on Thursday. Things haven't gotten better but they also haven't gotten worse.  I consider that a win! We decided we'd start the chain of surgeries with my left ear, but Trevor and I decided we could hold off on the actual surgery for a little while longer (until we're more financially stable, and I can afford to take weeks upon weeks off of work).

QUESTIONS

How do I feel today after my experiences this past week?
Overwhelmed and ready for a break! This week was Spring Break so I picked up as many hours as I could at work. I accomplished absolutely nothing for school, but I did manage to feel like I was living at the hospital. Yay? I am officially declaring this week a fail for the "learn to say no more often" goal!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! What are you doing to celebrate?

#1 - Read one book per month. I spent a lot of time reading this week! Enough so, that I already finished my book for March, Safe Haven. I don't have any other books on hand to read, but I do have ideas of a few books I'd like to buy for upcoming months.

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. Check.

#3 Run a 5K. I'll be running The Color Run in August, but I also just signed up to walk in another 5K this week. It's in May, and it's going to be a blast!

QUESTIONS

How do I feel today after my experiences this past week?
I'm feeling surprisingly upbeat and looking forward to this upcoming week. The past 7 days have been positive and I feel ready to conquer the craziness that is about to ensue.

What did I do this week to indulge in my passions?
I was able to curl up with a book for hours upon hours this week. I always tend to forget just how much I love getting caught up in a good story but once I indulge, it's a wonderful feeling.

#1 - Read one book per month. I started Safe Haven this week. I'm only on chapter 5 or 6, but it's quickly sucking me in. On Friday night, we went to Barnes & Noble and I found two more books that I would love to read this year... so I'm sure I'll be heading back there to buy them soon!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. On Thursday, I managed to bust out 250 leg lifts and I paid for it on Friday. Saturday morning (yesterday) was made up of 30+ minutes of cardio and more leg lifts/butt kicks/etc. I thought I was sore yesterday but this morning brought more pain. I have a love-hate relationship with being sore but the days after a workout are never fully complete until I am in pain :)

#5 - Plan a date night ahead of time for each month. Friday we went out to dinner and then to Barnes & Noble to cuddle up with books and magazines in front of their fireplace. Yesterday, we went to an afternoon showing of Silver Linings Playbook, went out for FroYo, and then came home for dinner and SkipBo. It was SO nice to spend time together, talk, and reconnect. It's so easy for us to fall out of practice when I'm working long shifts day after day but this weekend was just what we needed.

#7 - Shape eyebrows. I spent a bit of time in front of the mirror with some tweezers and I think I found a decent shape... it's not a 'forever' shape, but it'll do for now.

#16 - Get hearing tested again/look into surgery. The appointment with the ENT surgeon has been made! I'll be seeing him on March 14th and will hopefully get my hearing tested that day, as well. I'll keep you updated, but I'm hoping all goes well and that my results don't show a huge change in the deterioration of my hearing.

QUESTIONS

What made me blue this week?
I had a seriously hard time dealing with Trevor's employment situation this week. No matter what I did or how I tried to think, I was stuck dwelling on the negatives. I knew I was in a bad place, mentally. I knew I wasn't being positive about this tough situation. I knew I needed an attitude adjustment. But I didn't know how to make things better. My husband and family noticed the bad place I was in and approached me about it. I've always worn my heart on my sleeve - you will know if I am happy or if I am upset, that's for sure.

What made me happy this week?
Somehow, by some grace of God, Friday morning brought a clearer mindset and my attitude completely shifted. I had an exam that morning that I think I did pretty well on, I accomplished so much on my To-Do list, and felt happily balanced. In fact, I finally felt just plain HAPPY.

What did I learn about myself this week?
When I get into these slumps of negativity I have to just ride it out. I can't try and force something that isn't happening - it only makes it worse. However, I also know that I let my negativity get out of hand and involve other people. This is something I am working on.

I am a work in progress. We all are works in progress!

#1 - Read one book per month. I finished my financial book by Suze Orman this week so I'm right on track. I already have Safe Haven {March's book} on my nightstand ready to go! I'm hoping to soon find my book for April but I don't even know what kind of book I am looking for. Any suggestions in the comments below would be much appreciated!

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. Again, I'm right on track with this one. Last Sunday I worked out with a great friend who will also be running in The Color Run with me in August and we got pedicures afterwards to celebrate our February birthdays. The idea of a pedi after our workout made it hard to focus on the gym but I made sure to mix it up by alternating each mile (or 10 minutes) on the elliptical with a circuit of weights and strength training.

#9 - Travel more. We have some fun plans brewing for this summer. We won't be traveling too far from Wisconsin, but a trip is a trip! We'll be popping up all over the Badger State, in Chicago, and also Indiana. I love traveling!

#10 - Learn to say no more often. I was put in a tough spot at work yesterday where I had no chance to say no to something I desperately didn't want to do. However, even in the crappy situation, I made my intentions clear and didn't allow myself to be walked all over by my coworkers. A discussion at the end of my shift with our House Supervisor confirmed that I made the right decision and was in the right to stand by that decision for today's schedule as well. Cross your fingers that I'm not working in a department I dislike being sent to and that I'm able to be on my own unit with my own patients.

#15 - See a Broadway show. My birthday gift from my parents is/was a trip to Chicago this summer. I am IN LOVE with the city - I try to go at least once a year (preferably when the weather's nice because it's a great city to walk around in!) - and enjoy all the city has to offer. From Oak Street Beach to the Loop, to the shopping, and the people... I love it all. Part of my gift is tickets to The Book of Mormon at the Bank of America Theater and I can't wait! I've heard great things about the show so it will be a treat. This will be crossed off the list in a matter of months!

#16 - Get hearing tested again/look into surgery. I have always had hearing problems. It's a long story but it results in my eardrums disintegrating and basically dissolving over time. The last time I was checked, each ear drum was about half left. This means I have in both ears what normal people have in only one and my hearing is severely impacted. (Fun fact: Because of my hearing loss, I have to watch movies with the captions on - TV not as much because I usually just turn it up, but movies are a caption must-have!) I was supposed to have both ears surgically fixed in high school but lost insurance coverage before I had a chance to act on it. Plus, I may be a baby when it comes to surgery. Maybe. Either way, doctors have always instructed me to get my hearing tested every 6 months... but my new insurance only covers once every three years. It has now been three years since my last test and I can finally call to get a test scheduled!

The weekly questions don't pertain to my past week much. I've been stuck in a never ending cycle of school, homework, and getting called into covering shifts at work. I'm just trying to make it till tomorrow (and the tomorrow after that, and after that)... so I can't say what made me happy or blue. I'm simply just "floating" along.

#1 - Read one book per month. Still reading my financial book: The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, and Broke by Suze Orman. Last week, I mentioned a retirement plan. Well, I am proud to tell you that I talked with my HR people, made a lot of emails, got frustrated, felt stupid, asked for help, and managed to enroll in a Roth IRA and in mutual funds all by Friday morning.

#2 - Work out on a regular basis. My workout last Sunday was the best I've had in a long, long time. I don't know if it was the music or what, but I ran almost 5 miles in 35 minutes... I blew my own expectations out of the water on that one!

#5 - Plan a date night ahead of time for each month. Part of my Valentine's Day gift to Trevor was a pre-planned, pre-paid-for date day. We haven't picked out a day to go, but I'm looking forward to it already. However, if we don't get to it until March, I can still say that I planned a date ahead of time for February because our Valentine's Day evening was wonderful - heart shaped pizza, moscato, movies, popcorn, candy, and lots of cuddles.
Our Valentine's Day dinner
#10 - Learn to say no more often. I picked up a partial shift in the ER on Friday afternoon/evening. Part of the way into the shift, the girl that was replacing me on the next shift called and said she wouldn't make it in on time and asked me to stay until 9pm. While we could have used the money, we already had plans to meet Trevor's parents for dinner. Plus, I wanted to get home at a decent time so I could primp for my birthday on Saturday. I felt pressured into saying yes but I put my foot down and told her that I couldn't stay any later. Even though I was harassed a little afterwards, I still felt my decision was the right one and I would have regretted staying late and not going to dinner.

And now for the questions:

What did I do this week to indulge in my passions?
I took some time for myself on Friday night - did my nails, read a book, etc. and

What did I do this week to get my body moving?
Worked out with a friend as planned. Sunday's workout rocked!

What did I learn about myself this week?
I have a guilty conscience when saying no - I will be working on that in the future.

What made me happy this week?
The first set of exams I took this semester really had me bummed and worried about my grades. An announcement from an instructor on Wednesday helped turn that around. Also, yesterday was my birthday and spent hours with loved ones. First, we attended a funeral visitation for one of Trevor's great aunts. While it was somber, it was still nice to see family. We also had lunch with my immediate family, grandparents and aunts. It was a great time! And of course, Trevor and I got to spend a lot of time together which was so wonderful.
