Winter Blues

I mentioned it last week, but I've got a bad case of the winter blues. Actually, I've had a bad case since November or December but was able to keep the nagging in the back of my head. You see, we went to a resort in Ocho Rios on our honeymoon and we can't wait to go back. However, we are also trying to save money to pay for nursing school, other student loans, and we want to save enough money for a really nice down payment on a house... which means we aren't going back for at least another two years. So that nagging wasn't too loud...until now.

Now, the beach is calling my name louder than ever and I check prices to Jamaica at least once a day.

Yup. Every.Single.Day. Told you I was obsessed.

In an effort to calm myself and pretend Trevor and I will be packing our bags and hopping on a plane to warmer climates soon, I have been making packing lists and thinking about what I would take with me.
Don't judge! A girl can dream, can't she?

With a little help from Polyvore, I bring you my beach must haves!
Vacation2
Vacation2 by youandmearewe featuring bandeau bikinis

Make sure you take more than one swimsuit with you on your vacation to the beach. Nobody likes to put on a wet suit first thing in the morning and I can promise you that your bikini will not dry out overnight because paradise is humid. You will spend more time in your swimwear than wearing anything else, so don't skimp out on these. Also important? Take as many bikinis as you want, but also take a one piece for a day you may be more active - especially if you head on excursions.

Take a beach bag that's big enough to hold a lot of stuff. If you're super smart, you'll use it at your personal carry on item on the plane and save yourself some room in your luggage for more swimsuits!

You'll need a brightly colored cover up. I like the purple one above from Victoria's Secret. It's super easy to put on and looks tropical.

Speaking of tropical, don't forget to take a long, flowy dress! You will want to wear it to dinner or in the evening but you can also use it as a cover up in a pinch.

Make sure you pack your sandals! Take a comfy pair that can be worn on the beach and with your dresses so that you don't over pack.

You've gotta have enough sunscreen and lip balm to last you all week. This is one thing you can't skimp out on! Protect your skin - you don't want to get burned and you certainly don't want to get skin cancer. You'll still come home from the beach with a tan even if you use SPF.

The same goes for your sunglasses. Protect your eyes!

Last, but certainly not least, make sure your toes and fingers are painted with gorgeous colors! You'll be taking lots of pictures {toes in the sand, anyone?} so you'll want them to look their best. My picks are a bright happy fuchsia for toes and a nude for fingers.

Beach packing doesn't require a lot of bulky items. My husband and I like to travel carry-on only and it's completely doable when heading to the beach!

What are your must-haves for vacation and traveling?
And please, for the love of Pete, tell me any ideas you have to get rid of my intense need to go on vacation!

His & Her Q&A

Yeah!! My favorite linkup of the week!

How did your other half make you feel loved this past week?
His: You didn't run off after you met a whole bunch of guys when you were in Milwaukee {they were there from Chicago celebrating a bachelor party, I was there with my best friends from high school celebrating a marriage that never happened}.
Her: He encouraged me to be positive and live in the moment when something unexpected came up.

What was your biggest hobby as a little kid?
His: Playing "farm" or Legos.
Her: I rode my bike around everywhere and I loved doing anything with friends!

What about the world makes you sad?
His: The lack of common sense people have. People don't think about one another anymore - it's just plain rudeness.
Her: The disrespect that people routinely show each other - through politics, road rage, the Internet, at the grocery store - EVERYWHERE. People need to learn to be tolerant. Period.

What about the world makes you happy?
His: Despite our "best" efforts, it still exists.
Her: Travelling and experiencing all of the different cultures. And the kind souls that I meet everyday at work. There are some amazing people out there!

What is your current favorite song? (Post youtube links/videos if possible!)
His:

Her:

If you weren't currently married/dating your other half, where do you think you would you be? (I don't know is not allowed!)

His: Possibly still living at home, possibly still going to school for something. I might have explored other jobs I could have gotten. It's hard to say, my life could have gone a lot of different ways.
Her: I wouldn't be living in such a small town - I'd be in Milwaukee or Chicago or an equally large city enjoying the single life with friends! I never saw myself getting married and settling down before I was in my late 20s so I'm sure it would be something along those lines.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

His: Taking motorcycle rides.
Her: Biking, going to the beach, going for walks around our neighborhood - I have a lot!

What was your favorite memory from the wedding celebration/reception? (NOT THE CEREMONY. If not married yet- what do you most look forward to about your wedding celebration/reception?)
His: I just liked all of the compliments we got on our day afterwards. We worked hard to make everything very 'us' and it reflected it. So many people had amazing things to say and we are still getting compliments over a year later. Getting all of the compliments made me feel like everyone enjoyed it as much as we did!
Her: The day went by so fast, but I loved driving to our hotel in our decorated getaway car, stopping at Culvers for some food because we were so hungry, getting changed, and then heading to my parent's house for a bonfire and after party. It was just nice to hangout with our families and chill after everything. I'd also have to say that our honeymoon was amazing. I know it wasn't on our wedding DAY, but it was part of the celebration!

What are some traditions that you now share together?

His: Apple picking, and going to ShrimpFest at Red Lobster once a year.
Her: Picking apples in the Fall! Buying a Christmas ornament that reflects our past year together every December.

What was your favorite thing that you did this summer?

His: I liked going up north to the cottage with you, that was nice.
Her: The trip to Chicago and Indiana to visit friends. So fun!

I hope you got to know me and Trevor just a little bit more this afternoon :)

Glamping - with Abby

While I'm away, I've asked Abby from Pink Lemonade to stop by and introduce herself. She's pretty fab, and here's why: she comes up with her own Fifty Shades, has some adorable nephews, and has set some flippin' sweet goals for herself! She's a newlywed {just like me!} and has shared some great ideas for free ways to enjoy time with your significant other. Plus, she has some great style!

Take it away, Abby!

Hello new friends!! I am so happy to be here today and am honored to be able to meet you all. I am also honored to be writing this guest post for Sara. My name is Abby, and I blog over at Pink Lemonade. On my blog, I write about life as a wife, fashion, new trends, things I LOVE, and interesting highlights that happen in my life. I’m just living life, sipping Pink Lemonade and I would love it if you would stop by and have a glass with me!

Have you ever heard of Glamping? Well today I want to introduce you to the world of Glamping. Yes, Glamping is real, not just something I made up. Glamping is putting the Glam in camping.

This is considered Glamping

When I think of camping I think of tiny tents and sleeping on the ground with either a sleeping bag or on a blow up mattress. Not quite the idea of a fun night out under the stars, but thanks to the new and improved upscale camping, a night under the stars could be perfect.

Glamping at Palmar Tent Lodge in
Bocas del Toro, Panama

Another Glamping tent in Bocas del Toco, Panama
I did some research on Glamping and found out that it is a relatively new trend in the United States and Europe, but it started in Africa and Thailand. So…. I did a little more research and found that the Glamping camp sites are somewhat like a normal campsite, due to the fact that it has no electricity, no cell phone coverage and no Wi-Fi; but wait most of them include solar panels for hot showers, working toilets and a wind generator. WOW! This all sounds amazing. I would go Glamping almost every weekend if that truly was the case, but glamorous camping does come with a price…anyone want to guess what a weekend in a Glamping campsite might cost you for two nights…$488. Holy Moly! That is a lot of money to sleep outside under the stars.

But wait I found a website for Glamping campsites…. Go Glamping

Wait it gets even better. I found a whole website for Glamping accessories… Glamping Accessories

I am just learning about Glamping, but apparently it is a big deal and I am a little behind on the trend.

After all the research I have done on GLAMPING I have made up my mind that I will be adding GLAMPING to my list of 25 by 25. It looks amazing and it could really be romantic. Ok, here is my prediction…. in the next 2 to 3 years GLAMPING is going to be the next honeymoon adventure. If I would have know about GLAMPING when I got married that would have been my first choice.

I hope you all have enjoyed learning about GLAMPING today! Thank you again to Sara giving me the privilege to write this crazy post for her today!

Leave a comment if you already knew about GLAMPING or have you ever been GLAMPING.

Roughing It

July 28- When was the last time you "roughed it"? Submitted by Kristen @ KtMoxie

Yeahhhhh. I'm not the "roughing it" type...

...so the last time I roughed it was probably the last time I was forced to go camping with my little brother and my dad. I'd guess I was around 15.

The "roughest" that I now get is sleeping in a crappy hotel... which has only happened once. It was the first night of our honeymoon and we were forced to find a hotel near the airport to try and sleep for 3 hours before our flight left at 5am. The hotel we were supposed to stay at lost our reservation and wasn't willing to work with us to right it... so we had to stay at another place.

Hey, on the bright side, we didn't get any bedbugs from the crappy hotel!

Our Week in Paradise - Honeymoon in Jamaica

July 12 - Talk about a favorite vacation you have taken.

I have been looking forward to today's post since... forever. Or, well, it seems like forever.

This is the most perfect quote for this post because it cannot be closer to the truth - especially when it comes to the vacation I'm bragging about today.

Trevor and I took a trip in June 2011 to Jamaica for our honeymoon. We spent a glorious week at Couples Tower Isle in Ocho Rios and missed it the moment we landed back home in Milwaukee... no, I take that back. We missed it the moment we got on the bus to go to the airport to come home!

The resort is all-inclusive which means that all the alcohol you could want to drink is included and {even better} all of the food we wanted to stuff our faces with was included as well! The food was completely incredible and we had a hard time adjusting to making our own food once we got back home.

From the moment we walked into the lobby, we were relaxed. We got off the shuttle bus from the airport and were handed a warm cloth and a cold drink.

After checking in, scheduling our dinners and {complimentary} honeymoon couples massage, we were taken to our room overlooking the ocean. This was our view from our room - tell me you wouldn't love it!

The resort has an island accessible by boat that is used as an au natural sun bathing spot during the day and holds weddings during sunset and at night. Can you imagine just how gorgeous it would be to get married on that island?! I'm swooning just thinking of it!

We spent plenty of time lounging on the beach. We'd get up in the morning, go to breakfast {or have room service delivered - included!}, and head to the beach or a pool. Then, we'd eat a "first lunch" and find a new place to sunbathe. Early in the afternoon, we'd eat a "second lunch" and then find another lounge chair until it was time to get ready for dinner. It's a wonder I didn't come back 20 pounds heavier just by eating our "first" and "second" lunches everyday!

We ventured away from the resort once - to visit Dunn's River Falls {an excursion that was included} - and oh my goodness, was it a great time! We climbed a waterfall with a big group of people from our resort and enjoyed every second of it. The guides stopped us a few times on our way up to take photos of every couple. Here's the {awkward} photo they snapped of us!

We met and became friends with two other couples who were also on their honeymoons. One couple, from South Dakota, are expecting their first baby this year and we couldn't be happier for them! The other couple, from Indiana, is the couple that we're visiting this month in Chicago. We also met up with them in Wisconsin Dells right after Christmas so it's been far too long since we've seen them! The six of us enjoyed a particularly humid evening jumping from one pool to a hot tub to another pool... until it was waaay past our bedtimes. Such amazing memories! We have a great time together and Trevor and I are lucky to have found such fast friends {and wedding date twins} while on vacation!

Trevor and I want to go back as soon as we can afford to spend four thousand dollars on something other than student loans or saving for a house. As I mentioned in this post, I sometimes miss Jamaica so much that I could cry. I miss us being able to spend a whole week together without worrying about jobs or grocery shopping or laundry or cooking.

Tell me about your favorite vacation you've taken!

Gifts

June 27 - What's the best gift you've ever received?

If we're taking materialistic things here, the best gift I've gotten may be my bread maker. I am in love with it and the things it can do (pizza dough! cinnamon roll dough! yummy warm bread!). Plus, it makes my house smell heavenly. A bad day doesn't stand a chance when you walk through the door and are greeted by that yeasty, warm, delicious aroma. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Hands down, without a doubt, I prefer gifts of experiences to gifts of 'things'. If we're talking experiential gifts, the best I've had was our trip to Jamaica for our honeymoon. Technically, it was a gift because Trevor paid for most of it... but it was the. best. week. of. my. life. EVER. I have another post lined up to tell you all about it so, for now, let me just tell you that there is not a day that goes by without me thinking of our week spent in paradise. I dream about going back... and it physically pains me to think that we don't have plans in place to visit again. As pathetic as it sounds, there are days that I could cry just thinking about how bummed I am that we don't have Jamaica on our travel radar quite yet.
(You can't blame me for wanting to go back to that, right?!)

What's the best gift you've ever received?

Happy Anniversary

Today is our one year anniversary! Time has flown by and I couldn't be any happier to being sharing my life with Trevor. He makes me want to be a better person but at the same time he comforts me when I have bad days. How much luckier can a girl get?! I didn't think much would change when we got married because we had been together for six years before the wedding... but it did - and in a good way! I love knowing that it's just me and him going through life for the rest of forever. No matter what, I can count on him to be there for me and he can count on me to be there for him. He is my constant.

We've been on quite a few adventures together in the 7+ years we've been together and I've had the time of my life through it all. I can't wait to see where the future takes us!

Trev, as I said a year ago, I promise to fully share my life with you through days of happiness or sadness, abundance or want. I love you, always and forever.
