I recently woke up to news that I had been given an award by Carrie at Frugal Food Mama. I thought to myself "What in the world? A blogging award? Huh?" and quickly realized that they're a fun way to get to know the people behind the screen.
The way this award - The Liebster Award - works is that it is given to bloggers by bloggers to help show some recognition to smaller blogs (under 200 followers). When a blogger is given an award, they must answer 11 questions that have been given to them by the person who nominated them, come up with 11 random facts about themselves to share with everyone, nominate 11 other {small} blogs, and have those blogs answer 11 questions.
So let's get to it, shall we?
11 Random Facts About Me:
1) I hate, hate, HATE the feel of cotton being rubbed together or pulled apart. The feel of it is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Ugh, my teeth hurt just thinking about it right now.Fun story: when I was in 5th grade, we had to make haunted houses and to do so, we had to pull apart cotton balls to make spider webs. I couldn't do it, my teacher told somebody who told somebody who made me see a therapist... all they did at the therapist was brush my arms with a plastic brush and push me on a swing. Weirdest.Thing.Ever. My mom thought they were nuts and I never went back.
2) I don't like plain vanilla ice cream, but I do like vanilla bean ice cream.
3) I went to Montessori schools when I was younger and living in a large city. When my family moved to a small town, there were none available so I switched over to public school. I love Montessori schools and the philosophy behind them.
4) I have 2 college degrees and am using neither one in my current job at work. Fun times paying off those student loans!
5) I am working on applying to another bachelor's program. Am I crazy?
6) I had never met anyone named Trevor until I met my husband.
7) I hate driving. Especially if I have a long distance to travel.
8) The first time I flew on a plane, I flew to Paris. I think the length of that flight totally set the bar high and now I can do 4 hour flights no problem.
9) I've never smoked in my life. In fact, I've never been asked to smoke either.
10) I don't have a celebrity doppelganger but people literally stop me on the street and start talking to me like they know me - until they realize I don't know them. I get "You look so familiar!!" all.the.time.
11) I don't have a lot of really close friends but I am so protective of the ones that I do have. If you're my friend, I won't let people mess with you - I'll go all angry momma bear on them!
...are you still reading? Did I bore you? Wake up!
Here are the questions Carrie wrote for me to answer:
1. If you could compete in any cooking/baking competition on television, which one would it be and why? Any of the baking competitions. I can bake a mean cake, but I don't enjoy cooking as much.
2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate? I love coffee drinks from Starbucks {hellllo Pumpkin Spice Latte, Peppermint Mocha, and Skinny Vanilla Late!} but I also enjoy warming up with a mug of hot chocolate when it's cold out {read: every darn day in Wisconsin from December 1st to February 28}
3. If you could learn any new skill instantly by osmosis, what would it be? Languages. I'd love to be able to speak French, Spanish, Italian, Greek, and German. I tried learning Spanish from 7th grade until I graduated high school... but I kind of sucked. I want to be fluent!
4. What is your favorite holiday? I really enjoy Christmas and the holiday season that surrounds it. I love getting together with family, decorating, baking, getting together with family, eating great food, giving gifts, and getting together with family.
5. What do you think is the most eco-friendly thing that you do on a daily or weekly basis? We recycle every single thing that we can.We use low-energy light bulbs. We dry our laundry outside on the line if it's nice enough out. We combine shopping trips and errands. We use our resources wisely.
6. What two things are ALWAYS in your pantry? Taco seasoning {because we take tacos seriously around here} and cereal {because Trevor and I both enjoy a big bowl of cereal with cold milk for breakfast}. I know milk doesn't go in the pantry, but if it did I would have said that. Before we got married, there were weeks that I went without milk. Now that I share a fridge with Mr. Milk Lover, we go through a gallon a week.
7. If you could have just one super power for 24 hours, what would it be? Only for 24 hours? I'd have to say I would want to fly. That way I'd be able to see the whole world in a day and I could chase the sunrise. Wouldn't that be cool?
8. Who is your favorite author? Jodi Picoult.
9. What is the weirdest thing you have ever ate? I don't think I've eaten anything weird. I was a very picky kid and I've definitely expanded my tastes within the past 5 years... but I don't think anything weird has passed my lips. {Note: I also asked Trevor if he could think of anything weird that I've eaten and he looked at me like I had 6 heads, laughed, and basically said what I just told you.} I fail at this question.
10. What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? A new car. Or pay off my student loans. Nothing exciting, we have too many practical things to wish for!
11. Why do you blog? I started a blog because I wanted a place that we could return to and remember our newlywed, sans children, life. We're in no rush to grow up and have kids but we also want to savor the time we have. I find that blogging helps me find the little things in life to be excited and thankful about because I want to share it with all of you! I would imagine that once we have kids, this blog will be a great place for our family to come and get caught up on the little moments that happen so often in a baby's life.
